Hi! First time poster, looong time lurker! I hope this finds you well. Forgive me for being long winded, but something about Peel (and music in general) brings passion to my words!
.:.
I'm starting to mp3blog myself on a consistent basis, (pimptrickgangstaclique.com), and I'm fiending for a better workflow to manage my sizable bundle of feeds. After getting fed up with Songbird (again, and again), I've come back to the app that I really, really want to love.
I've long been trying Peel out (I remember downloading it way back during the initial announcement years back), but some kinda bug would always prevent me from purchasing a license.
After forgetting about it and trying alternatives out for a few months, I always seem to come back and give Peel another go. But it would always eventually start to lock up while it was updating, rendering it useless unless I deleted all prefs & started from scratch (or worse, all preferences/feeds would disappear).
Well, I'm back again, and so far so good. Combined with me no longer being a starving college student anymore, I'm thinking I'm ready to put my money where my mouth is for the best app of it's kind on any platform.
.:.
But before that, a few questions (yes, including the dreaded one):
Any kind of ETA on 2.0? It's been about a year since the sneak preview, and I fully understand how "real life" can unfortunately take precedence over "labors of love".
Will it work with Leopard? (A few essential programs I run for work are Leopard only, and probably won't be updated for another year or so).
Will there still be a web view of some sort? I understand (and welcome!) the change over to a rss-based per-post view, but the integrated, holistic web-view is one of the things that pushed me away from using Google Reader to track my tunes in the first place.
Also, will there be upgrade pricing? From what I gather, 2.0 seems to be a big update!
.:.
Whatever the case, If all goes well for these next 2 weeks, I'll definitely buy a license. When it works, Peel is a dream come true. Thanks for your time & patience, & keep up the good work!
PS: I know I should have come forward about the bugs much earlier, but as a student I didn't have the time (for mp3blogging, let alone bug hunting). This time around, I've only been adding feeds to Peel on a 1 by 1 basis, to try to find out which feed is the culprit. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help make Peel better!
I think the lock-ups are fixed now so if you see that happening please let me know.
As of Peel 2.0, I'm still working on it and trying to get it ready as soon as possible. I think it's getting really close but I really want to make sure it's solid before I release it.
It will work on both Leopard and Snow Leopard. I had to rewrite some core things after Snow Leopard came out and that slowed me a bit down.
There will be a upgrade fee that I think is very reasonable.
I have no intentions at the time to bring back the web view since I never thought it was very useful. If it turns out that many people prefer that over the RSS I might look into it.
If you're interested I can include you in the private beta so you can take it for a spin. Send me an email to hjalti [at] hjaltijakobsson.com if you're interested.
A week later and I'm still beachball free! This fact, along with your quick reply has given me much confidence—I'm sold. As soon as my PayPal funds are situated, I'll send in my registration.
I'm very interested in trying out the beta, and will send you an email referencing this thread.
Regarding the web view: I woudln't say I'd prefer it over the per-post view, but I do believe that it would be a nice thing to have. Nonetheless, I definitely feel that the feed-based per-post viewing method will be much more appreciated than the current implementation. Once I get a look at the beta I'll be sure to give you more feedback.
Once again, thank you! And I can't wait for Peel2!
Hello again! I finally got my paypal all straightened out, but for the past few days, I can't seem to load the buy.getpeel address. Are you doing an upgrade or something?
I'm very sorry about that, things have been quite hectic. I had a server failure while I was in the middle of moving between apartments. The server is up and running again and I'm finally done moving so I can start to catch up with my emails.
